Many people have missed many Kairos moments because they lack focus. That is why their lives have become an abomination, even though they are Christians. The Bible says, “I have seen princes trekking while beggars ride on horses.” It is an abomination under the sun. One of the major reasons is that they missed their visitation. They do not know how to focus on life and destiny. They allowed distraction to rob them of the many things God has given.
1) Distraction makes you lose your destiny and your inheritance in God.
Consider Samson! He was so anointed that with the jawbone of an ass, he slew a thousand warriors. When they provoked him, Samson took the gate of Gaza on his shoulder, climbed the mountain, and left it there. He was able to catch a thousand foxes, tie them tail to tail, set their tails on fire, and release them to destroy the farmland of the Philistines. How did he hold one thousand foxes?
A man that powerful, that invincible, that anointed, allowed one woman to distract him out of his destiny.
Judges 16:19-20: “And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.”
He lost his strength, lost his eyesight, and lost his destiny. A champion became an object of mockery. They plucked out his eyes and brought him to the arena to mock him.
Anything that will cause your gaze to leave your destiny — fall on your knees and pray for help immediately.
The shocking thing is that even the “Delilahs” don’t know what is pursuing them. It is only when you have fallen as a pastor or evangelist that they begin to ask, “Why am I doing this?” Some even come online later and say, “I want to confess,” after they have ground your destiny to ashes. I pray that your hair will not be cut off. May your dreadlocks keep growing.
Samson had seven dreadlocks — that is, the seven spirits of God. He walked in the fullness of the seven spirits of God, but distraction ground him. It doesn’t matter how anointed you are, it doesn’t matter the gift you have, it doesn’t matter the grace on your life — if you are distracted, you will fail. Seven dimensions of the Spirit of God ended on the lap of a woman because he could not focus.
2) Distraction opens the door to sin.
There are people whom God has delivered, empowered, and commissioned, but they will not take their eyes off distraction. David was the best and the finest in the kingdom. It was David who said, “By my God, I run through a troop. I leap over a wall.”
The Bible says that in the days when kings went to war, David was on the roof looking at a naked woman. From there, David plotted with Joab to kill one of his own generals. Iniquity entered the camp.
And God said, “Blood shall not depart from your family.”
David created warfare for many generations because he opened a door to sin. What God has given you, do not lose it, and do not use your own hand to open a door to sin.
Some Christians say they are born again, but their phones are filled with secular music. They allow demonic energy and frequency to saturate their minds. This power of godless music lures them to the club, and before long, they are hooked on alcohol. Before you know it, they are falling into bed with strange women, and their glorious destinies become a matter of trusting God for mercy.
Any door of iniquity that is open in your life, stand up today by the anointing and shut it down.

3) Distraction makes you miss your opportunities and times of visitation.
Jesus looked at Jerusalem and lamented over the city because they knew not the time of their visitation. A man who misses opportunities and visitations — his life becomes a snare. A glorious life can become a burden because you missed your season.
Examine the story of Martha in Luke 10:41-42. Jesus came to their house, and Martha was all over the place, but Mary sat at the feet of Jesus. Jesus said, “The words I speak, they are spirit and life.” When the Master sleeps, we can do other things, but when the Master is speaking, nothing is more important than to sit and listen. But Martha was too busy.
Martha was even offended and complained to Jesus, “Look, I’m the one doing everything, and Mary is not helping.” Jesus said, “Martha, you are troubled about many things. One thing is needful, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
God has given us grace for focus, and it is our prayer that it will remain with us till we leave this world.
Remember the man at the pool of Bethesda for 38 years. He had no business being there that long. The reason he stayed so long was because he missed opportunities. What you should have received in one day may take you forty years if you lack focus.
The problem was not about entering the water. The water came to the man, but the man still did not see it. Jesus stood and said, “Will thou be made whole?” The simple answer is “Yes.” A man who had been sick for 38 years should have been tired of talking. But he lamented, “You know, when the water is stirred, I don’t have any man to take me into the water.” Jesus looked at him and said, “Your sins are forgiven. Rise up.” He was the cause of his undoing.
You see some great men who should be shaking this world, but they are begging for bread. Some of them are holy, some are prayerful, but they are struggling. When the doors opened, they were not aware, so they missed their visitation. They live holily and pray daily, but they are everywhere.
Some will sit down with nothing to do and begin scrolling on WhatsApp: “Peter! Wow, is this you? Where have you been?” When they finish with Peter (maybe he didn’t reply the way they wanted), they move to the next: “Hey, Abigail.” And Abigail replies, “Sorry, I’m about to catch a flight. I’ll call you back.” They get upset and move to the next. If everyone turns them down, they pick up the television and start watching seasonal movies. They will gather seasons 1 to 14 and bury three weeks off because of distraction.
4) Distraction leads to wasted time and wasted energy.
Sometimes, when I am listening to a sermon while doing other things at the same time, I will listen to it three times and still learn nothing. It is not that the sermon is not inspiring — it is where my attention is. You can only receive from where your attention is channeled. There is a difference between seeing and looking. You can be seen yet lost. Only those who look make progress.
Being busy does not mean you are doing anything. You can be busy doing nothing. If you are busy but not focused, you will waste time and energy.
James 1:6–8: “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
Even in prayer, you can pray and receive nothing. Most people are not praying in church; they are focusing on the cameraman. Most people are not praying — they are focusing on what people are thinking. So, when they carry the microphone, instead of focusing on God or stirring their spirit, they begin acting in drama because they want people to have a certain impression. Once they feel they have gotten that impression, they end their prayer.
5) Distraction brings judgment.
1 Kings 20:39-40: “And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver.”
Everything God gives you — even if it is called a gift — you will account for it. Every opportunity given to you, you will account for it. If you waste it, there will be judgment on the day of reckoning.
If you have a ministry, focus on it. If you have a gift to sing, focus on it. Train your voice to sing well. Some people believe that because it is unto God, He will take the glory no matter how they sing. Some call themselves singers, but when they sing, it sounds like a caterpillar moving.
What are you spending your life on? If it is not about your calling and what God has asked you to do, stay away from it.
Many will be judged not because they sinned. In Matthew 25, the man with one talent did not sin. He simply did not maximize what he was given, and he was cast into outer darkness. You are the one thinking that only sin will be the reason for judgment. The gift God gave you, which you have not refined — a time will come when another generation will rise and have to carry your own responsibility added to theirs, because you wasted your life.
When I knew that God gave me utterance and it would be one of my triggers for bringing my generation to Jesus, those days I bought books like a madman. I would empty my pockets on the road and buy books. We used to have markers with many colors. I sat on messages for hours. That is why, till today, I still quote some of these men. Some of them I have not listened to in three years, others in five years. I chewed the material so much that even after thirty years, it is still fresh. I could even recite the tongues of many preachers. That was the level of dedication and refinement we entered.
There was a time Bishop Adeboye’s tongue was playing, and I started speaking the same tongue with him. My wife was shocked. I said, “Wife, ten years ago, we slept with these things. It is not a gift; we sat down on it.”
There was also a time I sat for hours just listening to speeches by presidents of nations. Today, I talk without consulting books because I have refined my gift.
Invest in your life; otherwise, distraction will rob you of it. You would be mistaken to think that the people changing their world are the best that God has. Some of the best men and women of God never made it to the limelight. They were robbed by distraction.
