We have to be planted properly before we can bear fruit for the Lord. Our lives must be rooted in the right environment to flourish.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”
You simply cannot be planted properly if you are living among sinners and taking counsel from the ungodly. Scripture warns us to come out from among them and be separate, and God will receive us. What fellowship does light truly have with darkness?
It is impossible to be planted rightly if we are associating with the world and having fellowship with darkness. Instead, choose to delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night. When you align your focus with His truth, you will be planted properly by rivers of living water.
2. Take a Full Step Away from the World
Do not live halfway in Christ and halfway in the world. Be either all in or all out. Compromise only leads to spiritual stagnation and weakness. Walk away from the world completely. Say a resolute “no” to the world, the sins of the world, and the ungodly ways of the world.
Begin to meditate upon the Word of God as you receive it into your heart. Study it, reflect on it, and read it consistently, and it will become a bright light to your path.
God’s Word becomes our highest delight. When you open the Bible with a hungry heart, divine joy fills your soul, and supernatural peace fills your heart. Jesus said that when we are truly planted, and when we abide in Him, we will inevitably bear fruit.
3. Grow in Fellowship with the Saints
Psalm 92:13 declares:
“Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.”
It is wonderful to read the Scriptures independently and to love the Bible, but we also have to love God’s people. We must intentionally place ourselves among the right people—in the vibrant fellowship of the saints.
That is why Scripture admonishes us, “Do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together.” Going to church and gathering with believers is very important because it gives us vital fellowship with the saints.
Remember how the early church operated in the book of Acts. The new disciples dedicated themselves to learning the apostles’ doctrine, going from fellowship to fellowship, and meeting from house to house. There was rich fellowship within the church, and that is precisely what kept them together. Fellowship strengthens what God gives us, and fellowship preserves what God gives us.
Without fellowship, we could not spiritually survive long-term. We need the fellowship of the saints, the shared strength we receive from one another, and the mutual comfort we derive from brothers and sisters in Christ. So, not only is it important to have the Word dwelling richly in you, but you must also have the fellowship of the saints as an active part of your daily life.
4. Be Planted in the House of the Lord
Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.
When you study the Hebrew meaning of flourish and fat in Psalm 92, the word fat here does not refer to physical weight; it means full of spiritual vigor, health, and vitality.
Over the years, I have seen people who left the church and subsequently became spiritually strange and distant from God. They tried to be “just me and my Bible,” yet they kept one foot in the world and had no meaningful fellowship with the saints. Because they isolated themselves, they could not truly participate in the life of the Holy Spirit and the life of the corporate body. Since Jesus is the head of the church, isolating oneself from His body causes spiritual dryness.
We need each other. We desperately need the body of Christ. Unfortunately, many people today are neglecting the house of the Lord. They offer excuses, saying things like, “I do not know where to go. I cannot find the right church.”
Of course you can. Look for a congregation where Jesus is genuinely loved, where He is glorified, and where the Gospel is preached fully without compromise. Not all churches are bad, corrupt, or full of politics and wayward teachings. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and help you locate a healthy, bible-believing church.
There are many good churches all over the world, both large and small. Find the one where the Word is preached, where you can serve and grow, and where you are comfortable, and you will flourish.
5. Cooperate with the Lord
Jesus is the vine, while you are the branches. When spiritual fruit begins to manifest in your life, Jesus is the One who truly produces it. We bear the fruit, but He gives it; we show it, but He creates it.
Therefore, the fruit of the Spirit is ultimately the fruit of Jesus. It is all Jesus coming out through your character, and Jesus being revealed to the world. Your life is designed to be His mirror.
Once you are truly abiding in the vine, you will bear fruit. When people love the Lord, love His Word, and love His people, their lives are transformed. When people see Jesus clearly, it changes them completely from the inside out.
Look at John 15:1–2:
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”
Every branch in the Lord that does not bear fruit, God will take away. But every branch that bears fruit, He will purge and prune. He cleanses it and prepares it for even greater growth and productivity.
When we examine the context of the vine and branches in John 15, God’s responsibility is to keep you productive and fruitful. But we must actively cooperate with the Lord for that to happen, and God faithfully gives us enough grace to cooperate with Him.

Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, ‘Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?’ But he answered and said to him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.’”
God works with us with immense patience. God Almighty is responsible for our productivity, but we must cooperate with His Spirit. He will grant you grace, time, and space to grow. But that season of grace is not infinite—for some, God gives a space of time, whether it is three years, four years, or several years. If, after all these intervention seasons, a person remains stubborn and refuses to bear fruit, they risk being cut down.
God gives us seasons to do a little extra spiritual work on ourselves—to dig around our lives, pull out weeds, and apply spiritual fertilizer (which is the Word of God and deliberate, righteous living). God mercifully gives us time to produce fruit.
Do not neglect the Lord, do not neglect the house of the Lord, and do not neglect the Word of the Lord. Perhaps you are wondering why your life currently feels like a mess. You can fix that quickly right now because the Lord has not abandoned you.
However, be warned: if you neglect the Lord repeatedly, if you refuse to cooperate with Him, seek Him, read His Word, and assemble with the church, eventually you will find no inner strength left to return. Too many spiritual strongholds will have been constructed in your life by the enemy to hold you captive.
Have you drifted back toward the world? Has your heart grown cold toward God? It is time to come back to the Lord today, lest you be cut off. The last thing the Lord desires is to cut anyone off from Himself. Yet He is undeniably clear: if anyone refuses to bear fruit in due time, they face the risk of judgment.

“He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.”
Spiritual neglect carries a very high price. I recall a message preached back in our school days where the speaker reminded us that when the Lord returns, tears will be too late. Desperate tears will be ignored then, and opportunity for repentance will have passed.
Now is the acceptable time to repent. This is the moment to come back to the Lord and live for Him wholeheartedly. Be watchful, stay alert, and pray continually, just as the Lord Jesus urged us.
7. Allow the Fruit of Love to Flow
Galatians 5:22–23 lists the full character profile of a Spirit-led believer:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
