12 Keys to Function with a Kingly Mentality

Functioning by the Kingly Mentality  part 2

1) Every King Thinks from the Position of Identity

One of the things kings fight to sustain is their identity. They refuse to let it be mistaken or lost. When colonial masters entered a territory, the first thing they did was drown the people’s identity. They gave them their language, their culture, and their names. They were trying to separate them from their heritage.

A man who has lost his identity has been cut off from his heritage. When they came into your borders, they took your name, your language, and your culture because they knew that, by doing so, they would sever you from your heritage. This is human heritage, yet see the lengths they go to rid people of it. How much more your heritage with God?

If you don’t know who you are, you cannot tap into what is available for you in God. That is why God, among other things, insists on giving you an identity, because your kingship begins with having an accurate understanding of who you are.

There are identities that you must never allow anything to obscure in your life.

  • You are a child of God. Let that sink into your heart and mind.
  • You were born a king. Kingship is in your DNA.

John 1:10–12: “He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. He came unto His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God.”

2) Kings are aware of their citizenship: You Are a Citizen of Heaven

You are not just an African, Australian, or American anymore; you are born of heaven. You are now a child of God. You have the liberty to think like God, to dare like God, and to operate like God.

If you were not like God, it would have been effort in futility. Imagine a goat trying to dress like a man. Most Christians do not know they are children of God. That is why someone can look at them and say, “I will deal with you,” and they immediately begin to panic.

3) Kings know their properties: Your Father Is the Creator of the Universe

You need to know whose son you are. Your Father is the Creator of the universe. Your Father is the King of kings and Lord of lords. There are things I do not pray about because I received the revelation of who I am. The moment you threaten me, you have already made yourself an enemy of God.

4) Kings know their alliance: You Have the Life of God and the Backing of God

As a son, God gives you His authority. There are things you do not need to call God about; just speak, and things will begin to happen. When you come into sonship, certain authorities are given to you.

5) Kings know their influence: You Are Not Just a Son of God; You Are Also a Priest in the Courts of God

You have the power to connect heaven and earth. You carry the divine presence and can bridge both realms. The Holy Spirit lives in you to make you a conduit between heaven and earth.

When you go to your job, you are not alone. Everything that rises against you in judgment, you shall condemn. The enemy may come in like a flood, but the Spirit of God in you shall lift a standard against them.

Do you know how many people have tried to destroy you? Do you want God to show you how many times they failed while He protected you, even in your ignorance?

Wherever you show up, heaven is supposed to show up. Because you are here, heaven is here—we do not need to go looking for heaven somewhere else.

When I told people that, “When I am here, heaven is here,” they asked, “What do you mean? Is it you that brings heaven, or God?” I replied, “God sends me. I am the one who brings heaven here.”

6) Kings are bold: There Is More on Your Side

When they threatened Elijah, he was not bothered. His servant wanted to give up, saying, “Master, there are many soldiers out there.” Elijah replied, “Relax, there are more on our side.” Then he prayed for God to open his servant’s eyes.

May God open your eyes to see that you are a king.

You need to see the way some Christians become anxious when they are told that an enemy is angry with them. They cannot sleep. They roll from one side of the bed to the other, looking for a peace offering to give to a man.

The three Hebrew boys said, “O king, we are not careful to answer you in this matter. If you choose, make the fire ten times hotter—we will not bow.”

When they threw them into the fire, it was the king himself who recognized the Fourth Man.

If you are not standing, you may be blocking your miracle. Stand your ground and let them throw you into the fire. That is when the God you serve shows up.

7) You Are Not Just a Priest; You Are an Ambassador

Have you ever found an ambassador begging for protection, food, or a house? No matter how poor a country is, an ambassador never begs. So long as the country qualifies to enter into a bilateral relationship, an embassy is established, and provisions are made. You cannot arrest an ambassador in the nation where he is serving; it is considered a declaration of war.

Yet many Christians are panicking, and demons seem to be arresting them every day—from their health to their businesses. They carry drums of anointing oil from one prayer house to another because these demons will not let them rest.

Are you aware that the perimeter of an embassy is not the property of the nation where it is planted? How, then, did the demon cross over? Don’t you know the demons trespassed?

Believers are running from pillar to post, crying over what is not lost, while the angels are wondering, “Why don’t they know they are children of God? Why don’t they know they are sons of God? Why don’t they know they are priests? Why don’t they know they are ambassadors?”

8) You Have an Identity from Heaven, and Anything That Is Not of Heaven Has No Authority Over You

I learned this early in life. Thank God for the mentors I listened to. From my youth, I dressed like a king. When I had only one suit, I bought ties and bow ties of many colors. I carried myself like a king because I understood who I was. There was no money in my pocket, but I knew whose son I was.

Nobody recognized it, but I recognized it, and that was enough. You do not need the whole world to acknowledge you as a king. If you know it, the Holy Spirit will bear witness.

We did not have money for shoe polish, so we used groundnut oil to shine our shoes. When people looked at them, they reflected like mirrors. We came out with audacity.

I would tell my sister, “Soon enough, I will give you blank cheques.” I did not even know what a blank cheque was. I had only heard that a billionaire once gave someone a blank cheque. I asked, “How does it work?” They told me, “You write any amount you want.” From that day, it became part of my language.

Nobody promised us anything. We simply realized that, in God, we were somebody. You may not be anything in your country yet, but you are something in God.

9) Kings restrain themselves: Comport Yourself Like a Governor

I was driving with my friends, and one of them said he was pressed and needed to relieve himself. I said, “Tell your body to behave itself until we get to where we are going. How many governors have you seen stopping their convoy because they wanted to relieve themselves?”

Many people do not know who they are.

You see people everywhere—by the roadside, in gutters, and on every corner—urinating openly or eating carelessly in public. Have you ever seen a governor eating by the roadside or a president urinating in public?

People behave anyhow, and when crises come, they suddenly begin acting important and praying loudly. They get themselves into unnecessary trouble because they did not conduct themselves like the kings they are.

10) Kings Think Dominion, Not Survival

When you meet a broke king, he still carries himself as though all is well. He knows he is not here merely to survive.

Have you ever seen a lion eating dead meat? No matter how hungry lions become, they know they are not creatures of survival; they are creatures of dominion. They hunt before they eat. It is a mentality.

Some Christians complain about hunger all the time. They cry, “Anything available, just give me. The country is hard.” Some will send you a message and, before you even have the opportunity to reply, they immediately include their account number while saying, “Oh man, this life is not easy. Please, just send me something.”

To them, life is all about survival. There is no dignity and no nobility. A lion would rather die than eat something rotten. That is the difference between a lion and a vulture.

You are not here to survive; you are here to dominate, and dominion is a mentality.

Anyone who understands dominion pursues territories, influence, and impact. People who operate in dominion are strategic, not reactionary. Those who react to everything are not going anywhere. Those who dominate sit down, map out their plans, and pursue them because they have an agenda.

Genesis 1:26–28: “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness… and let them have dominion.” Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, and have dominion.”

Luke 19:13: “Occupy till I come.”

11) A King Lives to Conquer

Find anyone with a kingly mentality; while others are looking for what to eat, he is looking for territories to conquer. He is looking for where he can make a difference. He is impact-driven.

While some of us were fasting in our youth, others were feasting. Today, many of those same people are looking for food because they were not visionary. They could not sacrifice for their destiny because of a cup of beer or a plate of food.

Even while you eat daily, take time to sit down and plan your life. Ask yourself, “Where will the influence God has given me reach in the next five years? What territories will I cover? What impact will I be making?”

Some Christians spend their money buying books because they are thinking about impact. In my youth, I bought books even when I was almost stranded. Returning from school, I would buy books even when I barely had enough money to take a taxi home. I knew that if I did not read then, I would have nothing to say to anyone today.

12) Kings are Part of the Solution

You will find some young people who spend everything on satisfying their appetite, with no sense of purpose or impact. Some become excited whenever someone else provides for them. Give them money or food, and they celebrate. Some even become entitled and return the next day asking, “Boy, are those leftovers still around?”

Because of their uncontrolled appetite, you can even insult them, and they will laugh. Call them fools, and they will still smile, just so they can get something to eat.

Yet there are young men today who are saying, “In another five years, we will influence the tech world.” Others are saying, “In another ten years, we will dominate the real estate industry.” Still others are declaring, “In another ten years, we will become fathers in the Body of Christ.”

If you spend your life loafing around without a plan, how will you ever become like these visionary men?

Do not let your appetite control your destiny.

When I was pursuing my master’s degree, I fasted consistently. While others were feasting, I was fasting. Today, I am feasting while some of them are still looking for what to eat.

Do not just be part of those who receive the solution. Become part of those who provide the solution.
