6 Ways to Walk in the Spirit

6 Ways to Walk in the Spirit

6 Ways to Walk in the Spirit

1) Believe all things are yours

The minute you step out of the old life, the minute you come into the new life, you literally begin to walk in a world that has no limits. The flesh has limits, but the spirit has no limits because limitation is known only in the old life. The minute you’re saved, the limits disappear. I want you to grasp this truth, get it in your heart, in your spirit, because we have been so accustomed to limits: limited strength, limited knowledge, etc.

Everything is limited when it comes to the mind. The word of God tells us that we should never think about life the same way again. The way you used to see life has got to be canceled now. You have to see life brand new because the Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 3:21-23, “All things are yours,” meaning a life with no limits.

1 Corinthians 3:21 “Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours.”

In life or death, present or the future, all things are yours. If you must walk in the spirit victorious, you must let go of Satan’s lies that all things are always somewhere to go grasp. You have everything already and your duty is just to let it flow.

1 Corinthians 3:23 “And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.”

That means everything Jesus walks in, you walk in. Your life from here on will have no past reference. Don’t ever say anything such as, “Well, I don’t do it the way I used to do it,” because what you used to do is canceled. It’s not about the old life; it’s about a new life. You don’t have an old life. It doesn’t exist because the minute you became a Christian, you became a new creation in Christ Jesus. Everything old and all things are passed away. You have to start thinking with that new way of thinking. That’s what it means to walk in the Spirit; walk in the Spirit means you walk in a world that has no limitations.

2) Total obedience unto God

You have to begin by obeying God. You have to act the life of the new creation. Unbelief depends on feelings while faith depends on the promise. It’s the promise of God that we live for, live in, walk in and look at.

When Israel came to the Red Sea, they saw the Egyptians behind them, and the sea before them. Moses did not see the Egyptians or the sea. He saw God. When you see God, you don’t see the past; you don’t see even the future — you see only the promise. Israel saw the Egyptians back there and the sea in front, and they said, “We’re dead.” Death is when fear becomes the focus of our minds. The world system is reckless and if you don’t live the new life, you won’t know whom to turn back to and look forward to. We are not to be delivered from anything because we have already been delivered from all our troubles before the foundation of the world. All we need to do is to fix our gaze on the promises of God. Your problems are not new to God. He solved them long before you were born.

The nation of Israel saw the Egyptians and the sea, but Moses did not see the Egyptians or the sea because he was living the new life. Stop looking at all the conflicts, the hardships, and bullying going on around you. Stop pondering about how your kids will go to school, and what will become of them in the university. Take all that to God. Begin to live in the promises of God.

3) Walk by faith

Exodus 14:15-16 “Then the LORD said to Moses, Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward. And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.”

To human logic and feelings, that statement makes no sense. To go forward means to drown. When God says, “Come on, move on. Don’t look at this but start walking.” Those who live the old life are going to say, “Wait a minute! If I go forward, I die. If I go back, I die.” But God says, “No, you won’t die” because you don’t have anything behind you or in front of you. You have to see the promise, not the Egyptians or the sea.

God said to him, “Stretch the rod.” To human logic, mind and feelings, the word of God makes no sense but his word is a reality to you believers who are living the new life. The old man in you says, “To go forward, I drown; to go back, I get killed.” Moses did not see the Egyptians and did not see the ocean; he saw the presence of Almighty God and walked into the presence of God. Moses walked into the realm of the Spirit. He walked into the promise and his mind had nothing to do with it. His feelings were detached at that moment. He knew that all that he was looking at does not exist; there is no army behind me and there’s no ocean in front of me. Ignore all that is around you, and keep seeing only God. Keep saying to yourself, “All I see is God. I will move forward.”

4) Fix your gaze on the promise

Numbers 13 and 14 tell the story of when Israel came to the border of Canaan, a place called Kadesh where he sent 12 spies to spy out Canaan. They went to spy the land and many of them did not see God and they came back with only bad reports full of fears. When they came back, they did not even mention Him (God) one time. All they saw was land, fruit and giants. Not one time did they say, “the Lord” except Joshua and Caleb.

Numbers 13:26-30 “Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. Then they told him, and said: ‘We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.’ Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.’”

They saw the land, and they saw the fruit and the giants. If you read what those other people said, they never mentioned God one time. All they talked about was the land, what’s in it, and the giants and the impossibilities. It’s not about the land you see but it’s about the Lord. When you see the Lord, it changes everything.

Caleb had a different vision of the land. He didn’t see anything else but God. God was more real to him than the land. God was more real to him than the fruit of the land. God was more real to him than the giants in the land. Others saw the giants and themselves as grasshoppers while Caleb saw God and himself as a conqueror. The minute we begin to see God, we do not care about the giants and that is when we begin to overcome our daily difficulties.

The giants are no longer giants in the presence of God. Become a man of the spirit. When you see God, you don’t see the ocean and you don’t see the Egyptians behind you. God is bigger than all of them. Our God is a big God. Don’t limit him to your mentality. Don’t limit him to your feelings and emotions. Don’t limit him to the way you feel about yourself and your life.

5) Do not look at what the devil is showing you

Numbers 13:31 “But the men who had gone up with him said, ‘We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.’ And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, ‘The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.’”

When you live that old life, you will see what the devil is showing you. And the way you see yourself is the way the devil sees you. You need to declare upon yourself, “I’m a new creation. I’m a brand-new man. All things are passed away now. I am the righteousness of God. I am chosen; I am loved. I’m accepted. I have all wisdom and knowledge.”

We live in an evil world. Stop looking at what your eyes are telling you because it’s not real. Live in the spirit, and not the natural. You are a supernatural being. And as a supernatural being, you see God, you see the promise, you see the covenant and not the Egyptians, not the ocean, not the giants.

Numbers 14:1 “So all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, ‘If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness!’”

They thought about all the negativity. All that bondage came back in them because they were not seeing God anymore. Your bondage will come back when you stop looking on God. Stop looking at all the negativities of life because they are not real. When Peter came out of the boat to follow Jesus on the water, his eyes were fixed on Jesus, and he was able to walk on the water too. It was not until he began to look at all the negativity surrounding him that he started to drown. Be positive every day of your life. Believe strongly in what God says about you more than what the enemy says about you.

6) Declares the Lord instead of your troubles

Numbers 14:4-5So they said to one another, ‘Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.’ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: ‘The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them.’”

Look how often he(Caleb) mentions the Lord. You have to mention the Lord more than your problems. When you are faced with problems, instead of complaining, you should sing praise to the Lord. The devil is mad when we are faced with troubles but yet remain joyful and calling on the name of the Lord. Before our problems came, the Lord knew it and had solved them already.

The devil is a liar and would whisper, “Your problem is so big and overwhelming. Would God really help you in this?” Just like Caleb solely mentioned the Lord when they were to face Canaan, you should do the same in this evil world. Discard distractions and embrace the promises of God. God would not bring you to a land that will be difficult to conquer.

Numbers 14:22 “because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice…”

Those ten spies saw the glory and the miracles, and they never saw God. When you walk in miracles, it does not mean you are walking in God. God wants you to walk in him and not in his miracles. God should be the one you walk into. He is the word, the miracle and the blessing. These spies saw the miracles of pillar of cloud and fire but never knew their self and surroundings were also big miracles. When we live in God, we realize that every moment of our life is actually a miracle. But when we live outside of God, we will always be requesting something beyond what our eyes can see to be termed a miracle.

Questions and answers

Why is giving important biblically? Biblically giving is important because it leads to abundant harvest. The Bible teaches that He (God) did it(giving) himself; he gave his son and harvested us. It’s a principle that is only going to bring blessing in your life. I know when I first started to travel, I went to a church and they received an offering for my radio. It was just a little ministry and they didn’t give it to me. I called them and they said, “Oh, we’ll send it, we’ll send it,” but they never sent it. And so, the Lord said to me, “You know, if you give it, just give it to them in your heart, then you can have a harvest.” And so, I said, “Okay, Lord, I will do just that.” That was the beginning of my radio ministry. I think that was a very important seed. Giving to me is the only way to have harvest.

Why is it important to expect when giving?

Faith has to be involved in giving. Faith pleases God. Faith has to be involved in everything we do. We even get born again because of faith. You give in faith and expect in faith.

Do we expect the harvest to come back within a certain time or is that up to God?

That’s up to God. I haven’t really seen a time limit with God. We sowed my husband’s retirement; That was $300,000. God said to me we should do it, and that he would take care of us. My son-in-law said, “I don’t want you living in my basement.” He was teasing me, but I sowed that seed, and that’s when God opened my biggest doors.

Why so many Christians today are in trouble financially?

That is because they don’t sow, and they don’t sow in faith. They don’t speak their word over it. They don’t expect a harvest. I sow expecting and I receive.

Why must we speak the word over it?

Because the word is the faith part of it. When we speak the word, the word cannot return void.

I’ve seen this giving work in my own life. When I have given to the Lord over the years, many things about my life shifted positively. I have learned more from Oral Roberts over the years about expecting the harvest. Oral Roberts asked me, “How many times did Jesus say ‘give’ in Luke?” and I said “One time.” He added, “And how many times did Jesus say the word ‘receive’ in Luke?” and I said “I don’t know.” I could not see until he showed it to me.

Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Jesus said “receive” four times (good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over). I urge you to go and give so that your life will be blessed. Not just giving to the Church, but orphanages, prisons, and the needy within your family, neighborhood and country.

Prayer for you

Father in Jesus’ name, it is your power Lord, bless your people with harvest as they sow today, in Jesus’ mighty name.

“If you have power beyond how much you know God, power will rule you. If you have money beyond how much you know God, money will rule you. Everything that is a blessing remains a blessing so long as you know God more than those things. The moment those things become more than the knowledge of God in your life, those things become your God and become corruption” ~Apostle Michael Orokpo
