How to Surrender All to God for Kingdom Mastery

We often desire extraordinary anointing, Kingdom wealth, and divine vision without recognizing the spiritual cost required to sustain them. Many believers pray fervently for breakthroughs, yet remain stagnant because their hearts have not attained the depth of surrender necessary for such responsibility. Total surrender is not merely a verbal confession; it is an altar of sacrifice where self-will dies so that the life of Christ can reign supreme. When God searches a life, He does not look for earthly credentials or intellectual eloquence—He searches for a heart that is yieldable, humble, and completely dead to self.

“The one secret behind the strange lifting of men, the one secret behind the mighty and marvelous hand of God over the life of a person, is total surrender.” ~Joshua Selman

1

God Weighs Our Motives and Heart Intentions

Before God entrusts any believer with significant Kingdom authority, wealth, or spiritual influence, He subjects the hidden motives of the heart to divine evaluation. Many of the obstacles we face in our spiritual journey are not attacks from the devil; rather, they are structural restraints set by God because our hearts are not yet ready to manage the weight of glory we request. God possesses infinite resources and can easily arrange systems to bring forth billions in wealth or massive spiritual moves, but He will not release what will ultimately destroy us. Daniel 5:27 (NKJV)

Surrender your ambitions daily by placing your goals on the altar, allowing God to purify your intentions before He expands your capacity, while also [overcoming deep-seated insecurity and finding lasting peace] through your identity in Christ.

POINT A

The Divine Scale: God evaluates every secret intention behind our desire for power, visibility, and financial freedom. If our motives are rooted in pride or self-aggrandizement, we will be found wanting.

POINT B

The Danger of Unsanctified Affluence: Possessing great wealth or influence without a deadened self-life leads to spiritual ruin, making material security a substitute for trust in God.

POINT C

The Trial of Spiritual Maturity: High levels of spiritual authority require an equal depth of personal brokenness, ensuring that God’s gifts do not become personal hazards.

Biblical Context

In Daniel 5, King Belshazzar used the sacred vessels from the temple of God for a profane feast, displaying pride and disregard for the Almighty. The divine hand wrote on the wall: Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin. The word Tekel comes from the Aramaic root tekal, meaning “to weigh” or “to be weighed.” In ancient near-eastern commerce, scales were used to measure the purity and weight of metals. God evaluated Belshazzar’s spiritual integrity and found him lacking substance. Similarly, King Solomon experienced God’s presence twice, yet his heart was gradually turned away by foreign influences because he allowed affluence to control his heart rather than remaining anchored in absolute surrender.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Action Step

Take time to audit your spiritual motives through honest prayer and quiet self-examination. Ask yourself: If God grants me the financial breakthrough or spiritual power I am asking for, will it draw me closer to Him or feed my personal pride? Surrender your ambitions daily by placing your goals on the altar, allowing God to purify your intentions before he expands your capacity.

2

Striving Lawfully Through Spiritual Discipline and Mastery

Spiritual authority and Kingdom mastery are not distributed through shortcuts or casual spiritual engagement. To be crowned in the Kingdom, a believer must strive lawfully according to the principles of spiritual discipline. God purges our hearts and vets our internal tendencies so that the weight of His glory resting upon us does not result in our destruction. Giving immense spiritual power or material resources to an unrefined heart is equivalent to placing a high-powered weapon in the hands of a child—it becomes a danger to the bearer and everyone around them. 2 Timothy 2:5 (KJV)

  • Adhering to Kingdom Protocols: True spiritual progress requires aligning our daily conduct with the exact requirements of Scripture rather than seeking effortless shortcuts.

  • Refining Heart Tendencies: God must deal with our hidden flaws, ego, and unrecognized tendencies before he elevates us to positions of high impact.

  • Moving Beyond Casual Christianity: Experiencing the depth of God requires stepping out of lukewarm routines and embracing rigorous spiritual devotion.

Biblical Context

In 2 Timothy 2:5, the Apostle Paul uses the athletic imagery of the Greek games. The word translated as “strive for masteries” is the Greek athleō, from which we derive the word athlete. In ancient Greece, an athlete had to fulfill specific rules, undergo ten months of strict training, and adhere to regulatory standards to be eligible for the victor’s crown (stephanos). Winning without following the rules resulted in disqualification. In the spiritual realm, God requires that our pursuit of mastery follow His established laws of sacrifice, purity, and heart transformation.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Action Step

Identify areas of carnality, compromise, or spiritual laziness in your daily life. Establish a disciplined routine of structured Bible study, consistent prayer, and periodic fasting. Ask God to reveal hidden heart tendencies that could jeopardize your spiritual growth, and give Him permission to prune those areas through His Word.

3

Burning All “Plan B” Bridges to Embrace Sovereign Devotion

Total surrender demands undivided loyalty to Jesus Christ. Many Christians struggle to experience the fullness of God’s power because they maintain backup plans, relying on human intellect, personal qualifications, or worldly connections alongside their faith. When our focus is divided between God and our self-reliance, we cannot fully please Him or receive what He has prepared for us. To truly walk with God, we must burn every alternative bridge and establish Jesus as our sole reliance. Jeremiah 17:9-10 (NKJV)

POINT A

Eliminating Alternate Reserves: Relying on backup security plans reveals a lack of ultimate trust in God’s sovereignty and stewardship.

POINT B

The Deceitfulness of the Human Heart: Human nature naturally seeks self-preservation and self-exaltation, making total reliance on God a continuous necessity.

POINT C

Yieldedness Over Human Qualifications: God frequently selects those considered insignificant by worldly standards because their lack of self-reliance makes them malleable in His hands.

Biblical Context

The Hebrew word for “deceitful” in Jeremiah 17:9 is ‘āqōḇ, which denotes something bumpy, knobby, crooked, or insidious. It describes a heart that inherently tricks itself into believing it is righteous while secretly holding onto self-interest. God’s declaration in verse 10 reveals that He alone searches (hāqar) and examines (bāhan) the deepest chambers of human motivation. He passes through superficial religious appearances to evaluate whether a person is truly surrendered or relying on their own strategic backup plans.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Action Step

List the areas in your life where you rely on personal talent, human connections, or financial cushions as your ultimate safety net instead of God. Consciously release those areas to God in prayer, stating: “Lord, You are my only plan. I destroy every reliance on my own wisdom and commit my destiny fully into Your hands.”

Establish a disciplined routine by focus on [deepening your daily prayer and spiritual disciplines] through structured Bible study, consistent prayer, and periodic fasting.

4

Understanding the Uncompromised Law of Covenant Sacrifice

Spiritual capacity is directly connected to the law of sacrifice. Across all realms of spiritual reality, sacrifice serves as a foundational requirement for authority. True sacrifice is not merely giving money, offerings, or tithes—it is the total yielding of your life, will, and rights to God. When believers attempt to engage spiritual battles while living in carnality and spiritual lukewarmness, they encounter powerlessness. Spiritual authority is backed by a covenant established through self-denial and total surrender.

Spiritual authority is backed by a covenant established through self-denial and total surrender, which is essential when [understanding how spiritual altars operate] and standing firm against evil foundations.

  • Beyond Financial Offerings: True Kingdom sacrifice is not measured in money, but in yielding your entire will and lifestyle to God.

  • The Reality of Spiritual Authority: Demonic forces and spiritual altars do not yield to empty religious phrases; they recognize genuine authority forged through covenant sacrifice.

  • The Pattern of Self-Denial: Even Christ fulfilled the law of divine sacrifice, enduring the cross to secure victory and authority.

Biblical Context

In Acts 19:15, the seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, attempted to cast out evil spirits using the name of Jesus whom Paul preached. The Greek word for “know” used by the demon for Jesus is ginōskō (deep, relational knowledge), while the word used for Paul is epistamai (to be acquainted with or recognize authority). The evil spirit recognized that Paul possessed authority derived from a life surrendered to Christ. Because the sons of Sceva lacked this covenant foundation, their superficial use of Jesus’ name left them vulnerable and defeated.

“Go behind the scene, and you will find a pool of blood still dripping upon the altar. It came from the covenant of sacrifice.” ~Joshua Selman

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Action Step

Reflect on your prayer life, scriptural engagement, and daily obedience. Shift your focus from asking God only for blessings to offering Him your life as a living sacrifice. Ask God: “What boundary, habit, or personal right are You asking me to lay down today?” Yield that specific area immediately without hesitation.

5

Enduring with Passion as a Living Sacrifice

Sustaining high levels of spiritual impact requires continuous training, endurance, and consistent devotion. Just as world-class athletes engage in daily workouts regardless of past victories, believers must maintain habits of prayer, fasting, and biblical study to preserve spiritual momentum. Surrendering all to God means laying down your ability to say “No” to His instructions. When you relinquish control of your reputation, titles, and ambitions, God marks your life with extraordinary grace, wisdom, and authority. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)

POINT A

Exalting Christ Above All Else: Every title, career goal, relationship, and personal vision must take a secondary position to the sovereignty of Jesus.

Biblical Context

In Hebrews 12:1, the writer uses the term onkon, translated as “weight.” In ancient Greco-Roman athletic contests, runners stripped away not only tight garments but also excess body fat and non-essential gear to reduce resistance. A “weight” is not necessarily a direct sin; it refers to any unnecessary burden, attachment, or distraction that slows spiritual progress. By laying aside these weights and focusing on Jesus—the archēgos (chief leader) and teleiōtēs (completer)—the believer receives the grace to endure suffering and achieve Kingdom mastery.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Action Step

Identify non-essential weights in your life—such as excessive entertainment, unproductive relationships, or unaligned ambitions—that hinder your spiritual growth. Set aside specific times this week for extended prayer and self-denial, explicitly handing over your career, family, and personal reputation to the lordship of Christ.

Conclusion & Spiritual Reflection

Surrendering all to God is the foundational requirement for entering true Kingdom mastery, spiritual authority, and divine trust. God evaluates our motives, purges our hearts, and requires the complete sacrifice of our self-will before placing His glory upon us. When we burn every secondary plan, lay down our personal rights, and yield our lives as living sacrifices, God elevates us to carry His power, wisdom, and resources for His purpose.

“

PERSONAL REFLECTION QUESTION

What specific “Plan B” security or personal weight are you currently holding onto that is preventing you from experiencing total surrender to God?

“

✝ A Prayer to Strengthen Your Spirit

Lord Jesus, I come before You today acknowledging Your absolute sovereignty over my life. I ask that You purge my heart of every hidden motive, pride, and self-reliance. Forgive me for the times I have held onto backup plans and trusted in my own abilities rather than relying completely on You.

Today, I burn every “Plan B” bridge. I place my life, career, finances, family, and reputation upon Your altar as a living sacrifice. Grant me the grace to yield my will entirely to Yours and to lay down the ability to say “No” to Your voice.

Restructure my heart, Father, and remove every weight that hinders my spiritual progress. Let Your Holy Spirit reign supreme in me, so that my life may carry Your authority, manifest Your power, and bring glory to Your holy name. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
